In 1986, Russ Heissner came to Boston to be the first head brewer at Harpoon. In 2016, a new brewing adventure began in Weymouth, MA.
The BHZ team brews small-batch, barrel-aged beer that’s created collaboratively with an ever-changing roster of innovative brewers. Our philosophy, however, never varies. We believe the best beer comes from exceptional ideas & ingredients–and is guided by rigorous technique.
Our pilot plant is in constant motion. We tap a new Pilot Pour weekly, which means you’ll find 10 to 12 amazing brews in our tasting room. Always something new. We also brew beer for draft & bottles.

Coldwater Crisp Huckleberry Pale Ale 4.8%
Dessert-y, malt aroma with a hint of sweet huckleberry. Thick, creamy. Right off the bat, you’ll notice notes of honeyed granola, with huckleberry and vanilla following close behind.
Wild Child || Amber Ale 5.4%
Tequila Barrel Aged
Aroma is citrusy with hints of sweet malt. On the palate, caramel and toffee greet you first. A mostly Mandarina dry hop, with a touch of El Dorado, adds citrus zest and notes of stone fruit. Slight tang of spicy, sweet tequila on the finish.
Golden Bear || California Common 5.3%
Lightly fruity from warm fermentation. Sweet malty notes of caramel & honey balanced with assertive bitterness. Clean finish.
Fingerpaint || Double Red IPA 8.5%
Collab with BHZ’s own Dan O'Donnell. Big, bold, smooth with a balanced bitter backbone. Hint of caramel. Earthy, dry, spicy complexity from rye. Dry hopped with Centennial for citrus and underlying resin notes
Let's Get Fizzical! || Brut IPA 6%
With a tip of the headband to ON-J, this Brut IPA greets you with high carbonation and is bone dry, light, and crisp. All Pilsner malt and dry hopped with the tongue-tingling trio of Citra, Azacca, and Vic Secret for tropical, dank citrusy notes.
Festbier || Märzen 5.8%
Our homage to Oktoberfest. Super smooth amber lager with light, bready aroma. Crisp, biscuity, and toasty. Hint of caramel. Faint hoppy notes of earth and cedar.
Five Rings Red || American Red Ale 8.1%
Bully Boy Whiskey Barrel Aged
New collab with Jerry Thornton. Deep amber red. Notes of caramel and toffee, with hints of toasty chocolate. Finished with big, dry whiskey flavors of apricots, apples, and spice.
Home Grown || Saison 6.6%
Bully Boy Whiskey Barrel Aged
Extra pale with clean, white head. Peppery, bone dry, and yet it has a silky mouthfeel from malted, wild rice added to mash. Rice also brings earthy-sweet notes of white bread + raw nuts. Brewery-grown lemon balm adds flavors of citrus pith with aroma of lemon + fresh cut grass. All balanced by oaky tannins from fermentation in Bully Boy whiskey barrel.
BAM BAM Batch #2 | Double IPA 8.8%
BATCH #2 features Mosaic, Citra and Simcoe. Simcoe rounds out Mosaic and Citra’s pineapple, orange & mango notes, adding bright touches of passionfruit and pine. ABV 8.8%
Adeline | Stout 10% — NITRO only
Whiskey Barrel Aged
Deep chocolate notes. Dark roast on the barley for an essential bitterness. A touch of flaked barley keeps things smooth. Caramel and oak reflect time spent aging in American whiskey barrels.
Bamboozled By Hops | IPA ABV 6.7%
Batch #3 in our rotating-hops IPA series. Dry hopped with Huell Melon, El Dorado. Hazy, deep golden color, You'll love strawberry & melon notes and welcome some serious, big-time lime.
Grove Crush | Berliner Weisse 5%
On the nose: light citrus + mango. On the palette: refreshingly tart, well-balanced match up of mango + grapefruit. Nothing heavy. Everything's chill with this beer.
BHZ Radler: Grove Crush with a refreshing splash of San Pellegrino sparkling fruit soda. Ask one of our servers

Barrel House Z Taproom Hours
BHZ is a great place to get together with friends|family|co-workers. A few ideas of what we can do:
Our taproom has a maximum capacity of almost 50 people. 100 people if we tent our outdoor space.
- Monday/Tuesday 11am-10pm
- Wednesday/Thursday/Friday 11am-3:00pm
- Sunday 6pm-9pm
You’re welcome to bring in your own food or hire a caterer. By law, you’re not able to bring in outside alcohol.
Our sound system is available for use or feel free to hire a musician(s).
We have a large screen projector if needed.
Cost: We’ll work with you to provide a cost estimate based on a bar minimum.
