In 1986, Russ Heissner came to Boston to be the first head brewer at Harpoon. In 2016, a new brewing adventure began in Weymouth, MA.
The BHZ team brews small-batch, barrel-aged beer that’s created collaboratively with an ever-changing roster of innovative brewers. Our philosophy, however, never varies. We believe the best beer comes from exceptional ideas & ingredients–and is guided by rigorous technique.
Our pilot plant is in constant motion. We tap a new Pilot Pour weekly, which means you’ll find 10 to 12 amazing brews in our tasting room. Always something new. We also brew beer for draft & bottles.

BATCH #3 | JUNE 2018. Hops: Huell Melon, El Dorado
RELEASE: JULY 2018
PILOT POURS | On Tap
An ever-changing series of beers from our pilot plant. Great beers come, stay a while, and then new greats take their place.
As a small-batch brewery, this list is happily subject to constant change. Updated: 6/19/18
Weymouth 400 | Kölsch 4.6%
A great, sessionable beer. Much to love with a crisp, bready, and slightly sweet malt character. You'll also discover some earthy + herbal hoppy notes from Kazbek. Portion of sales supports the Weymouth 400's work to celebrate the town's 400th anniversary in 2002.
Midnight Snack | Chocolate Peanut Butter Dunkelweizen 9.6%
Whiskey Barrel Aged
Some brews were meant to have Reese's Peanut Butter puff cereal added to the mash. This collab with Steve Ventresca is one of them. Aroma is nutty, bready, and toasty with a touch of chocolate. One sip reveals soft wheat, chocolate, nuttiness, dry oak, and slight banana esters from Bavarian Weizen yeast.
2nd Anniversary Strong Ale 8.8%
6-mos Madeira Barrel Fermented
What better way to say "Happy 2nd Anniversary" than to release an American ale that salutes style tradition and embraces the global influences of the madeira barrel? Hey, we're all about innovation! Earthy, slight sweetness, grape must and oak on the nose. Wide, welcoming palate: resin, orange pith, grape must, oak, caramelized sugar, toffee. Limited supply of 500 ml. bottles available.
Stavelot | Belgian IPA
Oak Barrel Fermented 7.3%
We dry hopped this Belgian IPA with Jarrylo and Citra and the result is some serious hazy golden goodness. Spicy on the nose with hints of pear. On the palate, tropical punch, banana, pineapple, pear, mango and papaya. All of which is immediately followed by spicy Belgian yeast notes and oaky tannins.
Rood Mood | Belgian Tripel
Whiskey Barrel Fermented 10.1%
The ruby-copper brew is a big, beautiful beer that proudly stands by it's10.1% ABV. Aroma is earthy and ever so slightly sweet. On the palate, you'll pick up hints of caramel sweetness, earthy bitterness & spice, and a very dry finish from candi sugar (Belgian sugar commonly used in brewing).
Cherry Blossom | Cherry Wheat 5.5%
This hazy pink, light ruby brew is a collaboration between BHZ and our friends at the Park Street Ale House. You'll find black cherry on the nose. Bready, dry wheat character with notes of sweet dark fruit on palate. Good sessionable brew.
Sunny & 79º | Ginned Pilsner
Tequila Barrel Aged 6.9%
Our ITB release (unaged) marries pilsner style with summer's most memorable flavors. Crisp, slightly bready character. Dry spiced with juniper berry, citrus peel, coriander, and cardamom. Our 2018 tequila-barrel release was aged in tequila barrels which had a past life as bourbon barrels. (2017 release used tequila barrels previously used to age red wine) Longtime S79 lovers will detect nuances of smoke and oak from the deeply charred barrels.
Townie | Irish Ale
Whiskey Barrel Aged 8.4%
Big & beautiful. Smooth as silk. Notes of caramel, vanilla, butterscotch, and toffee. Dry finish.
Bamboozled By Hops | IPA ABV 6.7%
Batch #3 in our rotating-hops IPA series. Dry hopped with Huell Melon, El Dorado. Hazy, deep golden color, You'll love strawberry & melon notes and welcome some serious, big-time lime.
