In 1986, Russ Heissner came to Boston to be the first head brewer at Harpoon. In 2016, a new adventure began in Weymouth, MA.
The BHZ team brews small-batch, barrel-aged beer that’s created collaboratively with an ever-changing roster of innovative brewers. Our philosophy, however, never varies. We believe the best beer comes from exceptional ideas & ingredients–and is guided by rigorous technique.
Our pilot plant is in constant motion. We tap a new Pilot Pour weekly, which means you’ll find 10 to 12 amazing brews in our tasting room. Always something new. We also brew beer for draft & bottles.

DEEP CUT RESERVE No. 4 – RR#23 | Red Rye Ale BARREL: 11-Mos. Bully Boy Whiskey ABV 10.8%
Another great take on a great red rye ale.You'll get spicy rye notes, plus lots of caramel, toffee, oak tannins and a beautiful bourbon embrace from the Bully Boy whiskey barrel.
FORE RIVER BRIDGE | IPA, ITB ABV 6.2%
Our salute to the re-opening of the Fore River Bridge. On the nose: citrus and pineapple. On the palate, you'll find pineapple, orange as well as grassy, piney notes.
HOWFF | Scottish Ale BARREL: 3-Mos. Double Oak Bourbon ABV 6%
Malt-forward with big notes of caramel, oak, bourbon. Brewed with warming spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, allspice) to lend depth of Fall flavor to this big oaky bourbon-aged beer.
SUNNY & 79º | Ginned Pilsner BARREL: Tequila ABV 6.1% and ITB (In the BUFF) 6.0%
Co-brew with Doug MacNair. Traditional pilsner style with a handful of summer's most memorable flavors. Pilsner and Munich malts. Nugget, Pacifica, and Mandarina hops. Plus juniper berry and citrus peel.
ADELINE | Stout BARREL: American Whiskey ABV 8.8% (available on draft & nitro)
Brewer Chris Webster started creating this recipe in 2008 while in graduate school. Years of work paid off. Deep chocolate notes. Dark roast on the barley for an essential bitterness. Touch of flaked barley smooths. Time in the whiskey barrels gives hint of caramel, oak, and just a whisper of whiskey.
JAMAICAN SHANDY ABV 5.2%
RR#23| rum-barrel aged meets ginger beer. Spoiler alert: it's a happy ending!
SUNNY RADLER ABV 4.25%
Sunny & 79º | ITB with splash of sparkling grapefruit. V. refreshing.
DEEP CUT RESERVE No. 5 – RR#23 | Red Rye Ale BARREL 1-Year Jamaican Rum ABV 11%
Third release from our BHZ Deep Cut Reserves Series. One year in the Jamaican rum barrel gives RR#23 super smooth, big rum characteristics. Waves of molasses and burnt sugar on the nose & palette. Hint of dried fruit & fig. Bit of spiciness from rye. Clean finish.

DEEP CUT RESERVE No. 6–Santo Arnaldo Do Porto | Belgian Golden Strong BARREL: 6-Mos. Port Barrel Aged 9.3%
St. Arnaldo is the Patron Saint of Belgian Brewers and we think he'd whole-heartedly approve of this new release. Belgian yeast imparts sharp, clean fruity notes of pear and apricot as well as clove. The port barrel bestows hints of dried red fruit, dates, and figs.
